The Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra opens the 2017/8 concert season with a popular celebration ‘Prom’ concert featuring many of the Last Night favourites. The WPO music director Dominic Grier will be joined by local conductor Aedan Kerney to ensure the evening is a great success. Aedan will conduct items with the Worthing Choral Society and the concert will also feature Wagner Prelude to “Die Meistersinger”, Khachaturian Adagio from “Spartacus” and Shostakovich Piano Concerto No2 with soloist Chi-Hoi Cheung. After the interval, there will be a selection of the usual rousing prom favourites with the full support of the large and enthusiastic Worthing Choral Society.
The orchestra will celebrate its 70th anniversary this season and in this concert there will be a chance to hear a short trailer work for a new commission by composer James Olsen. The commission will feature music making in Worthing and will be a grand celebration of the 70 year history of the WPO and wealth of music talent in Worthing.
